How to get a crew today

Speed depends on how complete your first message is.

• Text before noon. After that we either fit you in or hold the first slot tomorrow morning.
• Send photos of everything that is moving.
• Give both addresses, with the floor and the elevator or stairs at each.
• Say where a truck can park at each end.
• Tell us your time limits, such as when you must be out or when the new building closes its elevator.

What it costs

A same-day job is quoted as a flat rate like any other, with a small premium for the rushed scheduling. The premium is shown in your quote before you confirm. We cannot promise a slot until we have confirmed a crew, and we tell you straight away if today is not possible.

What works well on short notice

Small jobs are the easiest to place.

• Studios and one-bedroom apartments
• A few pieces of furniture or a single item
• Marketplace and store pickups
• Junk haul-away
• Loading or unloading a truck you already have

What cannot be arranged in a day

Some things have lead times that no one can shorten. Knowing them lets you plan around them.

• A DC curb permit. Signs have to be posted 72 hours ahead on a residential block, so on a same-day move the truck uses the nearest legal space.
• An Arlington or Rockville street permit, which each need five business days.
• A freight elevator that is already booked by another resident.
• A building that requires several days' notice for a certificate of insurance. We can usually send the certificate the same day, but the office has to accept it.

Call your building first

Before you confirm with us, call the management office at both ends and ask three things. Can I move today? Is the elevator free, and for which hours? What do you need from the movers? Send us the answers and the insurance requirement sheet if there is one.

A two-hour prep list

You will not pack perfectly. Aim for these.

• Box or bag everything small. Trash bags are fine for clothes and bedding.
• Empty dresser drawers of anything heavy or breakable.
• Take apart the bed if you can, and bag the hardware.
• Unplug electronics and bag their cables.
• Clear a path from each room to the door.
• Put documents, medication, keys, and chargers in one bag that stays with you.
• Move your car so the truck can get close.

We hold the first slot tomorrow morning for you. Use the evening to finish packing and to reserve the elevator, and the move will go faster for it.
