Washington DC neighborhoods we serve

We move row houses, walk-ups, and high-rises across Washington DC and surrounding areas. If your block isn't listed, just text us — odds are we cover it.

DC moves usually come down to the curb. Residential permit parking, one-way streets in the historic quadrants, and buildings that only release a freight elevator for a two-hour window all decide how long the day runs. We plan the curb and the elevator before we plan the furniture, and the price we quote doesn't change because a loading zone was taken.

DC parking permits and loading zones

The District requires an Emergency No Parking permit from DDOT to reserve curb space for a moving truck, and the signs have to be posted on the block ahead of the move. We handle the application and the posting as part of planning your move, so the truck lands in front of your door instead of three blocks away.

  • DDOT Emergency No Parking permits applied for and signs posted before move day
  • Residential Permit Parking blocks in Capitol Hill, Petworth, Columbia Heights and Bloomingdale
  • Alley access and rear-loading for row houses without a usable front curb
  • Loading dock booking for NoMa, Navy Yard and Mount Vernon Triangle high-rises

DC buildings, row houses and walk-ups

Most of what we carry in DC goes up or down stairs. Federal-period row houses have narrow turns at the landing, Victorian conversions have doors that were never meant for a modern sectional, and the newer high-rises trade stairs for strict certificate-of-insurance and elevator-reservation rules.

  • Row houses and English-basement units in Capitol Hill, Shaw, LeDroit Park and Eckington
  • Third- and fourth-floor walk-ups with no elevator in Adams Morgan, Mount Pleasant and Columbia Heights
  • Same-day certificates of insurance for building management in Dupont, Logan Circle and West End
  • Freight elevator reservations and dock windows in NoMa, Navy Yard and The Wharf

What sets the flat price in DC

We price the access, not the clock. Once we know the floor, the stairs, the elevator window and the curb situation, the number is fixed. A slow elevator or a blocked loading zone is our problem, not a line item added to your bill.

  • Stair flights and whether there's a usable elevator
  • Distance from the truck to the door once the curb is reserved
  • Building windows that force a move into a set two- or three-hour block
  • Disassembly and reassembly for anything that won't clear a row-house stairwell

Washington DC moving questions

Do I need a moving permit in Washington DC?

If you want the truck parked directly in front of your building on a public street, yes. DC requires an Emergency No Parking permit from DDOT, with signs posted on the block in advance. We apply for it and post the signs as part of planning your move. If your building has a private loading dock or alley access, we book that instead.

Can you move a fourth-floor walk-up in DC?

Yes, and it doesn't change your price after the fact. Tell us the floor count and whether there's an elevator when you request the quote, and the stairs are built into the flat rate from the start.

My DC building needs a certificate of insurance. How fast can you send one?

Usually the same day you ask. Send us the building's requirements and the management contact, and we send the COI directly to them so it's on file before move day.

What it costs.

You get one flat price before we start — no hourly clock, confirmed in writing. Only three things move the number, and you hear about all of them while we're quoting: how much there is, how hard it is to get to (stairs, walk-ups, long carries), and how far apart the stops are.

Our promise

Four promises we put money behind.

These are the things we owe you on every job, and what happens if we miss.

The price you approve is the price you pay

Your flat quote is written down before we lift a box. If we misjudge the job, we eat the difference instead of renegotiating with you in a hallway.

On time, or $50 comes off your bill

We arrive inside your window ready to work. If we're more than 30 minutes late and haven't called you first, $50 comes off the total. You don't have to ask.

Insured and building-ready

Our crews are fully insured and we issue your building's certificate of insurance the same day, free, so paperwork never pushes your date.

If something breaks, we sort it out in writing

Everything gets padded and wrapped. If something gets damaged, file a claim in your portal with photos and we'll resolve it with you in writing.
